We have previously shown you how to play Tetris on your Terminal. In this tutorial, we will show you how to play many other games in your Terminal.
The Games Available
The hack that we are going to make use of today presents you with popular gaming names like Tetris, Ping Pong, and even Snake. The much lesser-known games, like Doctor, are also available, however the plain design and game play probably isn’t as attractive as the other games available through this hack. Now, let’s work on finding these fun, hidden games in Terminal.
Getting Started
Open the Terminal: Search for the program in Spotlight or by going through your Applications folder and looking under “Utilities”.
Activate eMacs: Simply type in the command “emacs” and press enter. No need to make another line beforehand.
Hit Esc key
Type “x”
Type “Tetris” (or “5×5”, “doctor”, ‘dunner”, “gomoku”, “landmark”, “pong”, “solitaire”, or “snake”)
Have fun! When you want to exit out to the main Terminal screen, simply click “Control + X” then “Control + C”.
Basics of Game Play
As you can see, the design is very basic. The left side of the Tetris game is where you’ll find the actual game play area, where you’ll see the blocks. The right side is where you’ll see the number of shapes fallen, number of completed rows, and finally your score. Just as you’d expect, use the arrows to navigate and the space to fast-drop a shape instantly.
For other games, simply replace “Tetris” that we typed in step 5 with the other suggestions provided in the parentheses. Want to play Ping Pong for example, type in “pong” (without the quotations of course).
For more Mac games in Terminal, go to Finder and press “Command + Shift + G”, type “/usr/share/emacs/22.1/lisp/play” in the box under “Go to the folder”. Click “Go” Let us know in the comments below if you enjoyed this hack for activating hidden Mac games in Terminal and which game you are finding yourself endlessly playing. Also, be sure to share this with your other Mac0using friends and family.
