Installation and Email Setup
Postbox is available for download with both Mac and Windows. The installation is quick and easy, and you can immediately start off with a 30-day free trial. After you launch Postbox, you will have to provide an email account to register this client. It covers a fairly extensive list of emails including Gmail, Yahoo, Zoho, Office 365, Outlook, Yandex, iCloud, Live.com, GoDaddy, Fastmail, Comcast, AT&T, and Bellsouth. The process to add each email is fairly automatic. Enter the password you use to set up that account. You can also add a new email account from “File -> New -> Mail Account.” For manual settings with Gmail, you will have to insert ports numbers as shown below. Compared to Thunderbird, the process is less complicated and you won’t encounter too many common problems, such as “response timeout,” “insecure client not recognized,” or “Configuration could not be verified.” Still, there is a helpful support section for any issues that you may encounter in Postbox. Each email account you add will ask you to provide permissions to Postbox.
Features and Personalization
Postbox is a minimalist email client, and it doesn’t take very long to feel comfortable with it. The interface feels very similar to Thunderbird, and all the icons and menu items are right where you expect them to be. One thing I absolutely loved about this client was its support for numerous themes. There is evidence that dark themes are good for your eyes and battery. Postbox offers many dark options, including “Noir,” “Midnight,” “Black Pearl,” “Charcoal,” “Solarized Dark” (it looks like a solar eclipse), and “Dracula.” There are light blue and green themes for many other occasions. Depending on your mood, you can change your background. Another good feature is a “smart folder” option. This helps you easily club various folders and sub-folders within your main folders such as “inbox” or “important emails.” You can also set up local folders from your machine and assign them to smart folders. The client has a decent address book where you can manage all contacts in quick easy steps.
Send Emails to Slack
Apart from sending emails across various services, Postbox supports numerous integrations with communication and file storage services. For example, it allows you to send emails directly to your Slack channel. For this, log in to your Slack account, click your profile and go to “Preferences -> Messages and Media -> Set up Email Forwarding.” It will generate a unique email address for you associated with your Slack account. On Postbox dashboard, there is an option called “Quick Post.” Here you just have to add the slack email address and subject and compose the email. Click “OK” to save. Whenever you want to send an email to your Slack, simply click the “Quick Post” option.
Send Files by Attachment to Dropbox, Box, Etc.
Apart from Slack, Postbox supports many other integrations. For example, you can send attachments up to 100 MB to Dropbox. For this, you need to set up a Zapier account first. You will be asked to make a new Dropbox email address from within the dashboard. This is where you will email your files. You can also send attachments up to 50 MB to a Box folder. Select the folder within your Box account, then go to “Settings -> Uploading -> Email Uploads.” Copy the email address, which is in the format of “u.box.com.” This will now be used with the Quick Post menu discussed in the previous section. Postbox supports integrations with MailChimp, Evernote, Basecamp 3, Wunderlist, Todoist, Flow, and many other software. This helps you to directly organize your activities not only for emails but also other productivity tools.
